India Vision Institute (IVI) today launched Foundations of Teaching in Optometry (FTO), a training program designed to help early-career optometry faculty become effective and confident teachers.

Thirty faculty members have registered for the program, which focuses on practical teaching skills and a clearer understanding of the educator’s role. Better teaching will help students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence required to become capable eye care professionals.

The opening session ' The Role of an Optometry Educator’ was led by Dr R Krishna Kumar, Honorary Adviser, IVI, and former Principal, Elite School of Optometry. It covered the move into teaching, the responsibilities of educators, effective teaching methods and the development of a personal teaching philosophy.

IVI’s CEO Vinod Daniel said, “Professional development matters because effective teachers help optometry students become capable professionals. Through Foundations of Teaching in Optometry, IVI is promoting professional development among optometry educators by helping them strengthen their teaching skills, explain concepts clearly and engage students more effectively. The outcome is better learning and better-prepared optometrists who can provide quality eye care.”
