JSW Foundation & India Vision Institute Strengthen Community Eye Care in Virudasampatti, Salem District

Virudasampatti village in Mecheri Union has marked a significant step forward in community eye health through a joint initiative by JSW Foundation, in collaboration with India Vision Institute (IVI).

The program, part of a campaign across the state, is strengthening access to vision care in underserved communities.

At the village, 117 people are being provided spectacles, from 148 screened, enabling clearer vision and improved day-to-day functioning for work, learning, and overall wellbeing.

IVI’s CEO Vinod Daniel said, “Accessible eye care is among the simplest and most cost-effective health interventions we can deliver at scale, because the impact is immediate and tangible. A pair of spectacles can help a child read with confidence, a worker stay productive, and an older person regain independence in daily life. Through partnerships such as this with JSW Foundation, we are taking services closer to communities, identifying need early, and ensuring that those who require further care, including cataract treatment, are referred through partner hospitals."

The spectacle distribution event was attended by A. R. Ariraj, AVP–HR, JSW. Others present included Bharathi Palaniswamy, Head CSR, and Vijayakumar, PRO.

Mr Ariraj said, “JSW’s focus has been on community development through such programmes that create meaningful outcomes.”
