India Vision Institute (IVI), in collaboration with Pirojsha Godrej Foundation, has launched a health and wellness initiative for 10,000 drivers in Maharashtra and Punjab.
The campaign will provide eye and hearing screenings, mental health awareness sessions and basic health check-ups for 7,000 drivers in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra and 3,000 in Mohali, Punjab.
The launch was held at the Bhiwandi Saidhara Warehousing and Logistics Park in the presence of Dr D. S. Swamy, Superintendent of Police, Thane Rural, and senior representatives from Godrej, among others.
IVI’s CEO, Vinod Daniel, said, “The initiative will improve drivers’ overall health, help them stay safe on the road and support their livelihoods by addressing health issues that often go unnoticed or untreated.”
“Drivers spend long hours on the road under constant stress, and many live with undiagnosed vision and hearing problems or mental health concerns that affect their safety and quality of life. With support from Pirojsha Godrej Foundation, this initiative looks at drivers’ wellbeing in a holistic way, covering vision, hearing, mental health awareness and basic health checks, including BMI checks, in Maharashtra and Punjab. Healthier drivers mean safer roads, stronger livelihood prospects and more secure families,” added Mr Daniel.
Trustees of the Pirojsha Godrej Foundation said, “Through this initiative with India Vision Institute, we are able to support 10,000 drivers in Bhiwandi and Mohali with services many of them rarely have access to. IVI’s expertise and outreach on the ground are central to making this campaign meaningful for drivers and their families. At the Pirojsha Godrej Foundation, we see our involvement as part of our wider commitment to safer roads, healthier communities and more inclusive growth across India.”
India Vision Institute works to make eye care accessible to people who might otherwise be left out of the system. IVI has so far reached over two million individuals, including one million schoolchildren and over 450,000 commercial vehicle drivers, through vision centres, mobile eye health clinics, vision screening outreach programs and the provision of corrective spectacles to those in need.
