India Vision Institute (IVI), aa nonprofit organization working to advance primary eye health among underserved communities, has been conferred the prestigious Shri SN Shah Award for Equity.

Instituted by Vision 2020: The Right to Sight—India, a national-level initiative of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), the SN Shah Award recognizes organizations for their comprehensive primary eye care screening efforts, with a focus on women and children.

The award was presented to IVI at the 19th Annual National Conference of Vision 2020 in Ahmedabad.

IVI’s CEO, Vinod Daniel, said “This recognition is a deep honor and reinforces our commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind from access to eye care services. It is a testament to the professionalism and dedication of IVI’s team, including our well- trained optometrists. It also reflects the power of partnerships and the lasting impact of sustained, community-focused interventions. The award inspires us to continue expanding our reach and serving more people in need.”

Since its inception in 2012, IVI has provided vision screenings and free corrective glasses to over 1.8 million people across 25 states in India. Beneficiaries include schoolchildren, the elderly, women, weavers and fisherfolk, transgender persons,
commercial vehicle drivers, daily wage workers, and other marginalized communities.

“With clear vision, individuals are empowered to lead lives of dignity and good health. Children are able to stay in school, improve their academic performance, and aspire to brighter futures. For adults, corrected vision leads to increased earnings and improved productivity,” added Mr Daniel.
